The city of Murphysboro was founded on March 4, 1867.  It is located in Jackson County, Illinois and has a population of approximately 9,500 people.  It is the home of the Apple Festival (the regions largest family friendly downtown festival), the head of the Shawnee Wine Trail and headquarters to the world famous 17th Street Bar & Grill.

It also has some of the best fishing, hunting and outdoor recreational opportunities in the Midwest. It is the home of Kinkaid Lake, Lake Murphysboro and the Shawnee National Forest.  

Also Murphysboro is alive with culture, recognizing its past at the General John A. Logan Museum and looking to the future with Riverside Park Band Shell hosting numerous events such as an annual Riverside Blues Fest, Big Muddy Monster Brew Fest and Riverside Bluegrass Music Festival.

The downtown has friendly antique shops, stores, restaurants and the Liberty Theater where you can see classic movies, plays and bands.
